So I had to trade in my sporty Mazda 3 thanks to the wonders of aging and arthritis.  I bought a Kia Sportage.

Which wouldn’t start yesterday afternoon.  Tried a few times and then decided that since it wasn’t going to happen, I should call roadside assistance and ask for a boost.  The wait was 3 hours but I wasn’t in a hurry so timing didn’t matter.  I also called the dealership and left a message for the service department.

The gentleman from CAA arrived, tried to start the SUV and pronounced that it wasn’t the battery but acted more like a frozen fuel line.  He told me to take a small heater (our garage is unheated) and put it under the hood aimed at the engine.  Which I did.

I checked it every couple hours till about 10pm.  Since it still wouldn’t turn over, I shut the heater off and closed the hood.

And then I had a minor brainstorm.  On a lark, I took the second set of keys and tried to start it and lo and behold the damn thing started!  It was a problem with the immobilizer and a dead battery in the first key fob.  Felt like a genius for about 3 seconds and then felt like a moron for not trying that right away and having to call CAA and the dealer.

Before you make the call for help, make sure you have tried all the options, whether in a vehicle, a web hosting plan or your WordPress installation.  Have you done everything on your end to find a solution?

Computer not working right? Reboot

Software gone buggy? Have you done a system update recently?

WordPress plugin not working? Have you done an all plugin deactivate to see if it’s a conflict?

Vehicle not working? Have you checked all the options – battery, immobilizer or key fob?

Do a bit of troubleshooting first, and if none of the options works, give support a call.  They will be eager to help and since you have done some leg work already, you are more likely to get to a solution faster!
